How does Individualised Funding work?

What can be funded? 

Currently, Individualised Funding can be used for personal care services, household management services, and respite care. You can also claim the costs relating to the employment of your support workers.
Personal care examples:

  • Bathing/showering dressing/grooming 
  • Feeding 
  • Teeth brushing 
  • Toileting 
  • Community involvement

  • Meal preparation, including shopping, cooking, dishes and kitchen cleaning 
  • Laundry, including washing, drying and ironing 
  • Bed making 
  • Cleaning, including vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathroom and toilet 
  • Rubbish disposal 
  • Shopping for groceries or personal items

  • You may go and stay in a community respite facility for a short period of time 
  • A support worker may come and stay in your home while your usual carer takes a break. A support worker may take you out on an excursion for a few hours to give your usual carer a break

  • First Aid certificate and other suitable training 
  • Mileage costs when taking you out 
  • Cost of taxi or bus fare after applying the discount for your mobility card 
  • Photocopying of employment related paperwork 
  • Cost of advertising for support workers 
  • Purchase of electronics so you can administer Individualised Funding

What can’t be funded?

  • Supported living 
  • Residential support 
  • Medical costs 
  • Things that are not disability supports, such as health services provided by a hospital or income support 
  • Information and advisory services 
  • Child development services 
  • Travel for your support workers to and from their work 
  • Illegal activities, gambling or alcohol
  • Food
  • Airline travel
  • Accommodation

If you need support with any of these, please speak with your NASC as there may be other kinds of financial support available to you.

Enliven offers you two levels of IF support, with different options at each level

All clients receive Service Level 1. Service Levels 2 gives you options for managing payroll and all required employment documentation. The costs associated with Service Levels 2 comes out of your Individualised Funding budget.

Service level 1

We can provide a full payroll service including: 

  • Calculating and paying your staff
  • PAYE tax
  • ACC levies
  • KiwiSaver contributions
  • Maintenance of annual and sick leave
  • Payslips
  • Other payments such as court ordered payments

Service level 2

Funded by the Ministry of Disabled People, all Individualised Funding clients have this service level which includes: 

  • Working with you to develop an individual service delivery plan 
  • Working together to develop a contingency plan 
  • Ongoing coaching and support 
  • Completing all necessary paperwork, including employment contracts and IRD forms 
  • Provide statements every four weeks 
  • Invoicing the Ministry of Disabled People on your behalf 
  • Processing costs related to your support 
  • Carrying out regular reviews
